Berlin ist nicht nur die Bundeshauptstadt und der Regierungssitz von Deutschland, Berlin ist gleichzeitig auch ein deutsches Bundesland und mit mehr als 3 Millionen Einwohnern auch bevölkerungsmäßig die größte deutsche Stadt.
Mit einer Fläche von 892 Quadratmetern gehört es zu den kleineren Bundesländern und hier mündet die Spree in die Havel und bildet auch den Tegeler See und den Großen Wannsee. Die höchste Erhebung ist der Große Müggelberg, der in Berlin Treptow-Köpenick liegt.
Berlin verfügt über 12 Bezirke, die sich aus 95 Ortsteilen zusammensetzen und Berlin wurde das erste Mal Anfang des 13. Jahrhunderts erwähnt und aus den Städten Berlin und Cölln bestand.
